![]() ![]() In the wake of the pandemic’s lockdown years, the global music community faces ongoing economic challenges around touring, releasing and promoting music. Despite the uncertainties that colour the day-to-day realities of many, music continues to function as a shared communal space and a source of collective solace. Three months into 2023, and it’s sadly safe to say these are still very challenging times. We’ve also reflected on the reinvention of Avalon Emerson, the inside story of comfy synth, looked at the A-Z of Azealia Banks, and hosted a Dazed Mix from Authentically Plastic. Check out both tracks below. In recent weeks on Dazed, we’ve interviewed FLO, Ice Spice and Fever Ray. One can only hope that the two tracks precede something much more in-depth from Grouper, as we head in to 2017, but even in their own right Paradise Valley is Grouper at her dignified, softly spectacular best. “I’m Clean Now” feels altogether more subtle and pretty, the guitars gentle and rhythmical as Harris’ serene vocals quietly lap at the outer edges, crafting a wonderful sense of escapism as the track rolls through its truly exquisite three-minutes. The track itself is suitably immersive, Liz Harris’ breath-soaked vocals spiralling inside walls built of muffled guitar and eerie ambience. “Headache” comes in the form of an interpretive video, courtesy of Paul Clipson, who used 16mm film to lend a striking sense of nostalgic burrowing to the clip. Released just as people took a break from watching, on the day of last week’s Winter solstice, “ Paradise Valley” is a brand new 7″ single from Grouper, consisting of two brand new songs – “ Headache” and “ I’m Clean Now” – the single quickly sold-out in physical form but you can hear digital versions of both tracks below. ![]()
